John Dupuis holds the Master of Music Degree in Piano Performance from UBC and the Bachelor of Music Degree in Piano Performance from McGill University. He studied with many of Canada's best pianists, including André Laplante, Richard Raymond, Marc Durand, Tom Plaunt, Rena Sharon, Jane Coop, Bruce Vogt, Kenneth Broadway & Ralph Markham, as well as Europeans Paul Roberts (England) and Stefan Bjosten (Sweden). He participated in master classes with internationally known pianists Aldo Ciccolini (France), Jacques Rouvier (France), Kendall Taylor (England) and distinguished USA artists Murray Perahia, Leon Fleischer and John Perry.
Mr. Dupuis is an active soloist and collaborative musician who has performed with members of professional orchestras on both the east and west coasts, including the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, the Vancouver Opera Orchestra, the CBC Radio Orchestra, the Richmond Orchestra and the Saint John Symphony Orchestra. He has given solo performances in North America, Europe and Asia.
As a teacher, Mr. Dupuis enjoys the privilege of working with some of BC's most talented young musicians, many of whom have been recipients of significant awards, including university entrance scholarships for music studies and the RCM Alumni awards for highest piano scores. Mr. Dupuis is a master teacher for the UBC Piano Pedagogy course and has been invited to adjudicate and give workshops throughout British Columbia.
Mr. Dupuis is a Senior Piano Examiner of the Royal Conservatory of Music and a member of the Canadian Music Festival Adjudicators' Association. He has previously been Chair of the Douglas College Music Advisory Committee and President of the Vancouver BC Music Teachers' Association.
